How to set up your Personal Home Page
First, design and write your home page. (If you need some information on how to WRITE your personal home page, try THIS! ) Now, take the page(s) you have written and the associated image files and what-not (whatever you have done) and gather it all together.
Log Onto Access Highway using your PPP account.
Open an FTP session to FTP.accesshighway.com using an FTP client such as "Cute FTP" or "WS-FTP". I use WS-FTP, because I find its interface to be both simple and intuitive. Normally, you would use an anonymous FTP session, but in this case, use your username and password in the appropriate fields. This will open an FTP into your home directory. (Home Directories at Access Highway are 5 Megabytes total, which includes your personal web space and whatever else you have there).
Create a directory called "public_html". WS-FTP makes the directory with the permissions set correctly for this purpose.
The default page in the directory is index.html
Upload your files into the directory. Please make sure that the extensions on HTML files is .html rather than .htm. Files ending in .htm will come up with their source displayed rather than their content. This isn't a good thing.
This "public_html" directory will answer to the web server's address as follows:
If you username is "johndoe", your web address would be http://www.accesshighway.com/~johndoe/
You are free to make subdirectories underneath public_html as needed for your needs.
